Dalmatians are a picture of elegance with symmetrical, muscular, medium-sized build and superior endurance. They are playful, happy-go-lucky, extremely sensitive, and very loyal. They enjoy playing with children and get along well with other pets.  They are clowns and love being the center of attention at all times.

Dalmatians are very intelligent and and learn quickly. Dalmatians train to a high degree of obedience and can also be trained for defense. They are very loyal companions to their families and make great watchdogs.

Dalmatians need human companionship and for this reason they do not make good yard dogs.  They are NOT outside dogs but instead family pets that prefer to live inside the home. Dalmatians will be very unhappy outside and will most likely protest at being left outside. Protesting can be vocal or through destructive behavior like digging holes, chewing on things, etc. Dalmatians should NOT be kept outside in the cold.

Dalmatians are very active and require exercise everyday. They are great jogging or biking partners. They love to run, preferably off the leash in a safe area. If you are a very active person who can devote daily exercise and attention for the dog, a Dalmatian is a good choice for you.  No, they are not all "hyper" or "high-strung". Dalmatians generally have a high energy level and may get easily excited however, with proper exercise and attention they are very happy being couch potatoes!

Dalmatians are easy to groom and clean but do SHED all year round. They generally are self-cleaning and are said to even avoid puddles! If you have more than one, they will often groom each other.

It is so important that you learn as much as possible about Dalmatians before deciding to adopt one.  Many people love the stunning look and elegance of a Dalmatian but fail to research the breed before bringing one into the home.  This many times can result in an unhappy home for both the Dalmatian and their owners.  We have done our best to provide you with necessary information before you decide to adopt one of Dorothy's Perfect Pets' Dalmatians.  Please take the time to read more about this breed here.
